Beautiful oak paneling with mahogany accents is the elegant setting
of this warm and inviting restaurant which was established in
1986 in the historic house built by Abel Conklin in 1841. The
fireplace and etched glass scenes of Huntington taken from the
Historical Society, are the highlight of the decor.
The owner, originally planned on opening a pub after time spent
in England. He has been in the business for more than 25 years
and opened Canterbury Ales in Huntington and Oyster Bay with a
friend before the introduction of Abel Conklin's in 1986. He is
particulary proud of the kitchen staff's skills and creativity;
and the waitstaff, whose professionalism is enhanced by frequent
meetings, are distinguished by their pride and their enthusiam.
The chef began here fifteen years ago and worked his way up to
become a multi-talented chef, through on the job training. Specialities
include live Maine lobsters, veal, lamb, pork chops and several
fish selections. The juicy porterhouse prime aged steak is mouth-watering
and all of the aging and butchering is done in-house. Not only
is the restaurant a traditional steak house, it also offers other
cuisines.
